Fishing Report |

Report for 22nd April 2011 |

Lake Eucumbene
In the last few weeks the fishing has change dramatically with the Trolling starting to get best results, the bigger fish that have been missing are back and going off leadcore seems to be getting best results with flatlining not to far behind : Best colors Yellow wing anything.
Flyfishing the lakes edge is also very good at the moment and getting better every day very early morning or late afternoon seems to be the go. With the new flooded ground comes the problem of landing these feisty fish in amongst the grass and thistles but I think we will put up with it, Both Browns and Rainbows are looking for food in these areas and finding the old Woolly Bugger or Woolly Worm to hard to resist.
Eucumbene River
The river has had a good flow of water all year for a change and for no apparent reason a large number of Rainbows have moved into the river and creating havoc with the angler who fishes light gear in the fast water but be warned the big Browns will move in eventually and cause even more damage to light geared anglers with tales of monster fish on 3wt rod [what tha]. This year like last year the special closure is in place for the Eucumbene River and it tributaries 1st May 1 fish must be over 50cms I would suggest that all females should be put back in no matter how big they are it's all about looking after our fishery because the Browns are not stocked in this Lake.
NEWS: We have a new webcam located at Old Adaminaby that can pan around the lake so you get a better feel for what is happening at any given time.

Mark Fountain (Eucumbene Fishing Charters ) catching plenty of 25-30cm fish. Best areas being Homeleigh Bay and up around Grace Lea Island.

| Tantangara:
Still dropping and the fish don't seem to care, Have been fishing up there again this week and the quality of the fish mixed with the fight they put up is awesome, still the same tactics as before Woolly Worms or Woolly Buggers , Brown, Black or Green they don't care . |

Flyfishing |
|
Eucumbene river has slowed down and now is more like it's normal flow except for the section of river from the Portal down to the lake this is running fast and a little discolored as usual. Plenty of Rainbows in this section these powerful little fish are a hand full in the fast water and you would swear they were a lot bigger than they are great fun I have been swing big wets in this section with split shot to get me down closer to the bottom searching for bigger fish and they are to good for me in the fast water I have hooked a couple of real head shakers but after a few minutes I'm the one shaking his head.

Trolling |
|
The trolling is at its best at the moment with results anytime of the day. Flat lines & 3-4 colours of leadline proving to be best option.
Lofty's in Eucumbene Special (Yellow Wing) or any bright colour seems to be the most consistent at the moment due to discoloration of the lake water as a result of big floods down the Eucumbene and other streams, best on leadline (3-4 colours) and flat lines (~50m).
Best areas have been Benefield, Coppermine, White Rocks, Collingwood, Frying Pan, Springwood Bay, Showground Point, Crows,Tolbar and the power lines.

Bait Fishing |
|
Mudeyes are the go at the moment that is if you can get them I have had real trouble getting consistent supply also due to the weather and the fact most of the dams dryed up last year and all the weed beds in them died or was cleaned out .
Best areas still are in and around the Grace Lea Island, Seven Gates, Collingwood, Coppermine, Frying Pan and just about anywhere you can drop a line in. Basically anywhere where there is a grassy bank leading into the water.
