Lake Eucumbene is at 53.5% and this maybe about as high as the lake gets this year and still looking good the fishing has been a bit like the weather hot and cold. With early morning or late afternoon / evening being the best times for most anglers the midge have slowed down a little and the caddis have taken over on those warmer evenings. And as the full moon is just a few days away the Mudeye's are more active and so are the fish if your willing to put in the time I have had some great fly fishing from 8pm till midnight lately and I see no reason for this to change over the next week or two. On the right night you can hear those big Brown's gulping down the Mudeye's no soft takes at the moment just ripping the fly line from your fingers so slow retrieve soft hands is the go. This is great fun when the Trout are attacking the fly like this I have been using Woolly Worms , Woolly Buggers and my secret weapon Mudeye and late on a dark night Hi Vis Mudeye pattern swims very high just under the surface and works a treat
Trolling;
The trolling has been very hard and of course I am hearing plenty of what's wrong with lake due to the lack of fish being caught .But let me say this happens around this time every year the fish go deep for one reason or another and not many angler's are willing to try something new hence no fish Down riggers or Snap weights to get down to them then try blades or some bib lures mix it up a bit instead of doing the same old technique day in day out .
Bait Fishing;
Pretty simple Mudeye's also if you feel a bit adventuress try using a bubble float and behind it a Woolly Bugger or Mudeye pattern it does work with a very slow wind of the handle late at night this can get some great results
Living the dream and loving it
Gary the [ Troutanator ] with a quality Tantangara Brown.... black woolly bugger..ah
